Parent Support
Our research shows that parent involvement is very important in supporting a child's speech and language development. Therefore, Marion's Way Preschool strongly encourages active parent participation throughout the program. We teach each parent specific skills on how to support their child's speech and language development at home. In addition, parents are invited to attend three parent sessions on the following topics:
- The basics of hearing loss including using hearing aids and cochlear implants, technology updates, and a question and answer session.
- Auditory (listening) skill development and its direct link to literacy (reading). This session teaches strategies for reading with children at home.
- Literacy in depth - a detailed look at the components of literacy and a discussion of strategies to improve listening and language skills through books and media at home.
