Nanette Thompson, MS

Education and Field Involvement

Nanette Thompson is a speech-language pathologist and certified auditory-verbal therapist at the University of Colorado Hospital.  She has a Masters in Communication Disorders from the University of Texas at Dallas and has specialized in working with deaf and hard of hearing children and their families for 17 years.  Nanette works as a consultant with the Colorado Department of Education as Cochlear Implant Mentor and with the Colorado Home Intervention Program, as a facilitator and as an Oral Communication Consultant.

She works closely with our cochlear implant team providing diagnostic services and weekly speech, language and listening therapy to families, children, and adults.  She conducts functional listening evaluations with our children and adults to assist and help guide audiologists to next steps with programming, equipment and adjustments.  She plays a key role in mentoring and counseling patients and families in our CI program and also provides overall guidance for setting appropriate expectations with cochlear implants and hearing aids for our patients.

Nanette also provides training and mentoring to many professionals throughout the state of Colorado who work with deaf/hard of hearing children.  In addition, she plays an active role in Marion’s Way, our summer preschool program.

Nanette works as a consultant with the Colorado Department of Education as Cochlear Implant Mentor and with the Colorado Home Intervention Program (CHIP), as a facilitator and as an Oral Communication Consultant. With CHIP, she joins other professionals on home/school visits and brainstorms next steps and effective strategies in the areas of auditory skill development, language expansion, and speech production.

Personal

Nan enjoys running in her free time, as well as spending time with family and friends.
