Marion Downs Hearing Center

The Marion Downs Hearing Center at the University of Colorado Hospital - Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora , Colorado , was created to honor the legacy of Marion Downs. The Center provides resources, education, and research to support the needs of individuals who are deaf and hard-of-hearing, their families, the community and hearing health professionals. It values individual and family rights in communication and technology choices, and strives to optimize the quality of life for all it serves. The Marion Downs Hearing Center is recognized worldwide for its unique leadership and progressive innovations in the realm of hearing and deafness.

    "The MDHC, as the genesis of newborn hearing screening is now focused on teaching deaf and hard of hearing babies how to communicate, families how to work together, adults how to handle their hearing losses, and all people what is available for their ear problems." - Marion Downs
  • Mission:
    To support the culturally sensitive services, resources, education, and research provided by the Marion Downs Hearing Center that support the needs of individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, their families, and professionals. All activities value individual and family choice in communication and use of technology, striving to optimize the quality of life for all that it serves.
  • Goal:
    The Marion Downs Hearing Center Foundation supports the activities of the Center and is currently in a capital campaign to raise the necessary funding for a new state-of-the-art center to house its unique programs.

The Center operates within the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, in affiliation with the University of Colorado-Boulder , and the University of Colorado Hospital.
