Curriculum
Marion's Way Preschool is a 6-week summer program for 8 children who are deaf or hard of hearing. (See Program Eligibility for more information on the selection criteria.) The school is hosted at the Anchor Center for Blind Children in Denver. Students meet 3 days a week throughout the program.
The classroom is a language-rich environment with differentiated instruction focusing on developing listening and spoken language skills. The teacher designs theme-based experiences when planning language, cognitive, and literacy activities for the children that also supports their social, emotional, and pre-academic development. Last summer, the program had three units: "Going To The Beach", "Going Camping", and "Going On A Picnic." Each unit was 2 weeks long and introduced new vocabulary words through books and activities related to each theme. Our goal is to make sure the children have fun and still feel like they're on "summer vacation!"
