Cheryl DeConde JOhnson, Ed.D.
Cheryl DeConde Johnson is self-employed in her practice, The ADEvantage (www.ADEvantage.com) providing consultation services for audiology and deaf education programs specializing in program evaluation and development. Formerly she was the consultant at the Colorado Department of Education for audiology and deaf education. Dr. Johnson has also been an educational audiologist, early intervention provider, hearing specialist, and deaf education program supervisor. She holds adjunct faculty appointments at the University of Colorado, the University of Northern Colorado, and the University of Arizona.
Education and Field Involvement
Dr. Johnson received her B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1975, her M.A. from the University of Northern Colorado in 1976, and her Ed.D. from the University of Northern Colorado in 1982. She is Board Certified in Audiology through the American Board of Audiology. She is a founding member and President of the Board for Hands & Voices, a member of the American Academy of Audiology, the Colorado Academy of Audiology, and the Educational Audiology Association. She is also a founding member of the National State Leaders Summit in Deaf Education. Cheryl is active in committee leadership for the American Academy of Audiology and the Educational Audiology Association and has served as a trainer in deaf education for the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE). She has worked with several state departments of education to develop and improve their services for deaf and hard of hearing students through her consulting practice.
Publications
Dr. Johnson is the co-author of the Educational Audiology Handbook (2nd edition, 2011, Cengage Delmar Learning) as well as numerous book chapters and articles. A resume may be found at www.ADEvantage.com.
Personal
Dr. Johnson enjoys most anything outdoors and is fortunate to live in the mountains of Colorado. She also spends some winter time in the desert of Arizona. She enjoys golfing with her husband and spending time with her grandsons. Dr. Johnson's daughter describes herself as sometimes deaf and sometimes hard of hearing and remains an inspiration to all aspects of Dr. Johnson's work.
