Campus Connections
We are now accepting applications for Campus Connections 2012.
Campus Connections 2012 will take place on July 19, 20, and 21 at University of Colorado, Boulder campus in Boulder, Colorado. Twenty-five (25) teenagers will be selected to attend camp at no-cost on a first come, first serve basis. In response to last summer's camper feedback, we've added another full day of programming! This extra day will allow for more hands-on activities after presentations and social time for the campers with their new friends.

We will accept 25 campers at no cost again! These campers will be eligible to compete for a $500 college scholarship. Campus Connections is a part of the MDHC Teen Program that specifically focuses on preparing college-bound high school teenagers for the transition to college. Many teens who are deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) are faced with communication access obstacles when they start college and are unprepared to advocate for their needs. This summer camp immerses teenagers in a college campus environment, preparing them to know which questions to ask, the resources to look for, and the classroom services to request. We bring in several different expert presenters to educate the campers on topics including:
- Their legal rights under the American Disabilities Act as students with a hearing loss
- The process of requesting and receiving classroom accommodations through University Student Services offices
- Technology options for the classroom and dorms
- The effects classroom sizes have on learning
Campus Connections launched its first camp in July 2011. We served 11 high school juniors and seniors from around the country, all with various levels of hearing loss, communication preferences, but with the common goal of attending college. Grant funding and several community sponsorships made our first camp a great success!
