Barbara Bell, Au.D.

Barbara Bell, Au.D. is a clinical audiologist at the Marion Downs Hearing Center at the University of Colorado Hospital.  Barbara provides a variety of clinical services mainly in the area of adult hearing and balance assessment and adult rehabilitation. Specifically, Barbie provides routine diagnostic assessment (including immittance audiometry), vestibular evoked myogenic potentials, video electronystagmography, brainstem evoked response testing, and otoacoustic emissions. In addition to providing patient care, Barbie also supervises graduate audiology interns.

Education and Field Involvement

Dr. Bell received her B.A. from University of California at Santa Barbara in 1983, her M.A. from University of Northern Colorado in 1985, and her Au.D. from Central Michigan University in 2007.  She is a member of the American Audiology Association, American Auditory Society, the American Speech, Language Hearing Association and the Colorado Audiology Association, where she has served on the Board as Vice President of Education.

Publications

Dr. Bell has published and presented on a variety of topics over the years. Most recently, she has been involved with and presented on a clinical trial with a middle ear implantable device. She has always been fascinated by the process of fitting a hearing aid, using probe microphones to collect objective data about the performance of a certain hearing aid while it is in a patient's ear. She appreciates the challenges of transferring a hearing aid's performance from a rigid laboratory setting to a patient's ear and looking for what she refers to as the human link. She is also very interested in outcomes. The following is a list of her publications:

Personal

When she is not busy being an Audiologist, Barbie is busy being a mom to her two pre-teen daughters. Together with her husband of 17 years, Bud, they take their family on camping trips and explore the great outdoors. Barbie also loves the theater and curling up with a good book.
